IVANHOE MINES Exploration is a company operating in the Congolese mining sector, with offices in Kolwezi (Province of Haut-Katanga) and the City-Province of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (hereinafter the “DRC”). IME is inviting qualified candidates, both male and female, who are interested in this position. The place of work will be located in Kolwezi.

This role is designed as a graduate-level entry point into applied geophysics in mineral exploration, with structured support and exposure across data acquisition, processing, analysis and interpretation. The position assists in the planning, execution, processing, and interpretation of geophysical surveys, supporting exploration activities and ensuring data accuracy and integrity.

You will have the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geophysics or related discipline
  • Valid driver’s license required
You will have advanced skills and knowledge in:
  • Entry-level to 1-year experience in geophysical exploration or similar field highly advantageous.
  • Experience with gravity and passive seismic surveys beneficial.
  • Equipment familiarity with DGPS, CG5/6 gravimeters, seismic nodes, magnetometers would be beneficial.

Technical Skills should include:

  • Proficient in geophysical data acquisition and basic processing.
  • Familiarity with GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Seequent Oasis Montaj is advantageous.
Personal Competencies should include:
  • Enthusiastic and keen to learn.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within multicultural teams.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure and challenging field conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Physically fit for prolonged fieldwork in remote and demanding environments.
You will be responsible for:

Technical & Operational

  • Assist with geophysical survey planning, including logistics and access route planning.
  • Participate actively in ground gravity and passive seismic survey planning, execution, and data processing.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data collection and preliminary processing.
  • Engage effectively with geophysics technicians and contractors to achieve exploration goals.
  • Analyze physical properties with geologists to improve understanding of geophysical result
  • Support geophysical data integration into GIS & geological modelling software (ArcGIS Pro & Leapfrog).

People & Teamwork

  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and effective collaboration with multicultural teams.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and contribute constructively.
  • Show willingness to learn from senior team members and engage proactively in personal development.

Reporting & Administration

  • Provide regular updates and accurate reports to the direct supervisor.
  • Maintain complete and timely field logs and ensure all processed data is accurately documented and archived.
  • Complete regular HR documents for technicians overseen during geophysical programs.
  • Ensure geophysical data is stored and backed-up in an organized manner.

Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality

  • All technical activities comply with relevant standards, SOPs, and internal quality control protocols.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE.
  • Attend and participate in Toolbox and Safety meetings, ensuring full compliance and understanding of safety protocols.
  • Wear the correct PPE at all times.


Communicate geophysical results and interpretation to geologists clearly and concisely.
