IVANHOE MINES Exploration is a company operating in the Congolese mining sector, with offices in Kolwezi (Province of Haut-Katanga) and the City-Province of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (hereinafter the “DRC”). IME is inviting qualified candidates, both male and female, who are interested in this position. The place of work will be located in Kolwezi.
Play your part in our team succeeding...To assist with the management, both administrative and technical, of exploration work in the Democratic Republic of Congo. To support the improvement in geological data collection and interpretation.

You will have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Mining Geology/Exploration Geology
- Post Graduate degree in Geology/Mining Geology/Exploration Geology (Honours/Masters)
- 10 to 15 years’ experience in exploration geology
- Sediment hosted copper exploration experience
- Fluency in English.
- Experienced in drill program management
- Data analysis and statistical skills
- Advanced technical writing and oral presentation skills.
- Cultural sensitivity
- Employee shall be required to become proficient in the following within the first year of employment: (Leapfrog, and other application as specified. Familiarisation with Western Forelands stratigraphy and ore controls)
- Technical report writing
- Data collection and interpretation
- Quality Assurance
- Experience as an expat
Technical Skills should include:
- Numerate
- Computer literate
- GIS software
Support exploration on IME Exploration Permits
Assist and support regional and project scale exploration.
- Manage quality control and quality assurance (QA QC) governance programs for all geological data (including mapping, drillhole logging and assays) collected on the Western Foreland for the incorporation into ever evolving geological models.
- Continually train and assist geologists in the collection of geological data.
- Work with other technical team members to develop exploration models and understanding of controls on copper mineralization for the Western Forelands and the greater Central African Copperbelt.
- Produce geological reports and presentations on technical geological content such as mineralogy/alteration for the extended Ivanhoe technical group.
Drive effective problem solving and continuous improvement
- Ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) and practices are in place and implemented correctly, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Review geologists work to ensure data is being collected correctly and in a timely manner.
- Suggest changes or additions to data collection and recording to improve geological understanding.
- Identify, plan and execute experiments to answer geological problems.
Deliver on the operating plan by supporting diamond core drilling
- Execute work concerned with diamond / RC drilling programs, geological mapping, the collection of geological samples and the collection of geophysical data as needed.
- Supervise and monitor drilling rigs/drilling contractors to ensure execution of the work-plan on-time and to budget.
- Generate maps and work with other technical team members to identify targets.
Participate in administration, reporting and presentations as needed
- Contribute to monthly, weekly and quarterly reports as required.
- Contribute to external facing geological products such as company reports, press releases, and investor presentations.
- Contribute to administration of exploration project
- Assist in the preparation of exploration budgets and tracking of expenditure.
