IVANHOE MINES Exploration is a company operating in the Congolese mining sector, with offices in Kolwezi (Province of Haut-Katanga) and the City-Province of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (hereinafter the “DRC”). IME is inviting qualified candidates, both male and female, who are interested in this position. The place of work will be located in Kolwezi.

To display and maintain GIS information for the DRC exploration geological team.

You will have the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Mining Geology/Exploration Geology
  • 1-2 years relevant experience
  • GIS software knowledge
  • Database structures and use
You will have advanced skills and knowledge in:
  • Exposure to the use of GIS software and an interest in increasing knowledge
  • Some exposure to the Copper exploration environment highly advantageous
  • Fluency in French and English
  • Advanced computer. Employee shall be proficient in the following applications: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.
  • Employee shall be required to become proficient in the following applications within the first year of employment:
    • ARCGIS Pro
    • Discover
    • Leapfrog

You will be responsible for:

Process: Maintain full and accurate GIS information and produce maps as required

  • Keep up-to date GIS data records of all work completed by exploration.
  • Use the existing GIS data format and improve on storage with consultation of onsite geologists and group GIS geologist.
  • Work with the full geology team in the DRC to prioritize the work program
  • Core logging, soil and stream sampling, mapping with rest of team when required and to become familiar with geological data types.
  • Accurately input geological data into standardised format files and storage locations.
  • Work closely with the database geologist to ensure data is stored and displayed correctly.
  • Communicate any errors in data to the relevant persons as soon as identified.

Reporting and Governance and Quality: Maintain accurate and complete records

  • Submit feedback to geologists on data received.
  • Submit feedback to management about data status.
  • Liaise with GIS geologist in Johannesburg to ensure company specific formats and practices are introduced and maintained.
